BIG STIR RECORDS presents the second in IRENE PEÑA's unique monthly series of singles celebrating the 10th Anniversary of her 2011 debut album Nothing To Do With You , one track at a time. The standalone reissue of “Always Running On” is out March 29, 2021 and available at bigstirrecords.bandcamp.com now, and streaming at digital platforms worldwide.

Following the opening track “I Won't Budge” in the reissue series as it does on the original album, “Always Running On” marks a change of tempo and thematic continuation. Riding a loping groove that recalls both the heavy balladry of The White Album and the best work of '90s alt-rock icons like The Breeders and Liz Phair, it's another manifesto of positivity from Peña, who explains:

“Musically, it echoes the motion (and lyrics) 'on and on' through repetition, because love is forever. It doesn’t let go. It keeps moving toward the one thing we should never shy away from. Let’s all lift ourselves, and give wholly to those we hold dear.” Steve Refling's production brings that insistence to the forefront as Peña sings the mantra-like lyrics in her trademark lilt:

“I’m always running on and on…”

The words, bespeaking a change of attitude on that fundamental momentum -- from escape to finding a destination, and embracing the journey – are adapted from a poem by Peña's friend Behzad Tabatabai. “This poem struck a chord with me, and I asked Behzad’s permission to re-write it for a song for inclusion on Nothing To Do With You. Thankfully he agreed,” says Peña. “How beautiful to put in to words this obvious freeing feeling of true love! I'd never thought of myself as a runner. I feel bound and incapable of lifting up off the ground and dashing to or from anything – with the exception of cherishing my loved ones and my unending passion for music.”
You can hear that passion here, and throughout the tracks from this album that will continue the sequential reissue of the IRENE PEÑA's debut album in the coming months. Mark your calendar, and virtually collect them all. BSR is proud to be reintroducing this fine album as Irene readies new music for the next decade of her career... always running on, and definitely worth following.
