Big Stir Records welcomes the Holiday Season with a special double-sided Yuletide single, with an A-side from the mighty MAPLE MARS and a special b-side from their frontman RICK HROMADKA! “Christmastime In The City” (from the band) backed with a solo cover by Rick of The Carpenters' “Merry Christmas Darling” will be released on November 17, early enough to become a key part of your festive playlists all throughout the Holiday season.

The full-band Maple Mars recording of “Christmastime In The City” revisits a standalone tune from Christmas past – the original version was part of a 2010 holiday compilation – but the new version for 2023 reflects the phenomenal chemistry the band has developed in the years since and amply displayed on their hit 2022 album SOMEONE'S GOT TO LISTEN. “This song was re-recorded for a pitch to an upcoming movie soundtrack,” explains Hromadka. “The meaning is about life in Los Angeles, where the weather is almost always beautiful at Christmas, but longing for the hometown cold and snowy comfort of New England.” This new version features Maple Mars’ Steve Berns on guitar and Ron Pak on drums. “It's also got backup singers Kylah Langevei (who happens to be my step-daughter), Mari Levitan and Ashley Lee. It's me on lead vocals, guitar, and keyboards.” It was recorded at Dreamworks by Ken Gombos, and produced and mixed by Rick himself.

Rick steps out on his own for the B-side, putting his own spin on the holiday perennial “Merry Christmas Darling”. “Originally released in 1970 by the Carpenters, this song was written by Richard Carpenter and Frank Pooler. I always loved this song as a kid,” says Rick. “The song is about someone who is apart from their lover at Christmas, and dreams and wishes they were together.” Rick recorded, produced, and mixed this song, and plays all instruments and provides lead vocals, and again, in the family Holiday spirit, Kylah Langevei provides backing vocals. Together, the Maple Mars and Rick Hromadka tracks paint a picture of a quintessentially LA Christmas, and we at Burbank-based Big Stir Records are sure they'll warm your heart this December, wherever you may be celebrating.
