International radio favorite “Flip” is the second single from CHRIS CHURCH's acclaimed new album RADIO TRANSIENT, out April 7 and up for pre-order now at
bigstirrecords.bandcamp.com and everywhere music is sold or streamed. It's the rocking closing track to an album of front-t0-back frenetic energy, and one of the record's most-played tracks on the global airwaves. Look for a brand new video to accompany the release when it arrives this Friday.
RADIO TRANSIENT, released on CD and Streaming March 24, has already racked up accolades that are impressive even by the standards expected for a CHRIS CHURCH release, widely praised for its strikingly original reconfiguration of classic '80s sounds as purveyed by the diverse likes of Lindsey Buckingham, The Fixx and Hall & Oates. “It is a case of taking those sounds and weaving them expertly into a sonic tapestry that takes the inspirations and hotshots them into the present day... Chris’s talents for a winning melodies and pithy observations are highlighted on this new collection," wrote the UK's Ian Canty (Slicing Through The Static) of the new album, while Popdose's Keith Creighton simply calls it “a really perfect pop record.”
Of the invigorating “Flip” itself, CHURCH says: “This one was a lot of fun. It's a weird little rocker about accepting fate. I referenced vintage video games, and even added sound effects samples in one section. I hope that connects with someone somewhere. I don't play video games, so it was Madame Producer Lori Franklin who found these samples for me. I had a blast laying out the parts... the lyrics refer to humans having more abilities and opportunities to accept inevitability as a positive, as in trying to take things in stride and letting the universe do its job in due time, without worrying about it all so much. I felt like the line 'It's purely protozoan, getting getting done' was a good sentiment upon which to leave the album. It's also called 'Flip', so feel free to start all over and hit play again!”
Both sonically and in terms of its hooks and passionate vocal delivery, CHRIS CHURCH's RADIO TRANSIENT brings to mind the hit-stacked '80s albums that partly inspired it, so don't be surprised if “Flip” is but one in a long line of its tunes to see standalone release. You can hear all of them on the record, out now on CD in record stores and at all major online retailers, and streaming everywhere:
