With the announcement of the new album from AMOEBA TEEN imminent, BIG STIR RECORDS is proud to announce the second advance single from the Stourbridge, England-based Britpop heroes' self-titled record. “New Material World” is out April 8, up for pre-order now at
bigstirrecords.bandcamp.com and streaming worldwide on the street date. It follows the success of the first teaser single “January” earlier this year and gives listeners another reason to anticipate AMOEBA TEEN, the band's latest, best and perhaps definitive musical statement.
Coming out of the gate like a lost New Wave classic with a Cars-meet-The Replacements vibe and featuring a chorus and signature guitar lines that stick like glue on the first listen, “New Material World” is surefire click for global airplay. It's miles from the sweet near-Americana of the previous single, but together they hint at the diverse but complementary immediacy of the forthcoming record. Recording together as a band for the first time, AMOEBA TEEN have captured the renowned energy of their live set on these new tunes, just in time to return to the stage with their strongest material yet. “New Material World” is sure to be a highlight of those upcoming gigs.
The spontaneity and band chemistry evident on the new recordings extends even to the writing of the tune. The band explains: “Amoeba Teen’s rhythm machine, Carl Bayliss, inspired singer-guitarist-songwriter Mark Britton to write the song during a text message exchange about getting together that night to create a new world of song material for the band. Thinking about George Harrison’s film, Living In the Material World, and how short life is for all of us, Mark was already of the mindset of imagining a new life for himself beyond his unhappy marriage. Mark used this thought as a springboard to write 'New Material World' in under fifteen minutes. That same night, the band got together to arrange the tune and create Amoeba Teen’s next single.”
“New Material World” draws on the excitement, adventure, and potential of new love, with the twist of a spiritual middle eight that’s a nod to the song’s original inspiration. Listeners will also spot a reference to a time when President Trump was in office, talking about building walls of fear rather than bridges of hope, making “New Material World” both a personal and universal quest for love. It's just what the world needs now, and there's much more of it on the way with the announcement of the new album from AMOEBA TEEN... stand by for the full details soon!
