BIG STIR RECORDS SINGLES SERIES is thrilled to announce the release of “Once For Love” by YANKS. This song is loosely inspired by the Jacqueline Susann novel, “Once Is Not Enough,” was a live show center piece; a roaring typhoon of sound and drop hammer sonic storm. This version is from a rehearsal tape in preparation to recording in the studio. Very hot – very rare, and coupled with the release of B-Side “Country Darlin’”.
Yanks consists of Owen Masterson, singer/songwriter guitarist; Jack Johnson, lead guitar/vocals; Paul Zahl, drums/vocals; Steve Aliment, bass/vocals. From 1982 to 1986, they were one of the hardest hitting acts touring North America. Based in San Francisco, Yanks emerged from the vibrant and seedy punk scene of the late 70s/early 80s with a fresh take on music, creating an edgy hybrid sound that deftly mashed AM pop, post-punk, metal and hard rock into a unique sound all their own. Yanks drew on the vocal influences of The Everly Brothers and The Beatles, mashed in with the dual guitar attack of The Clash, The Plimsouls, The Replacements, and added the recklessness of The Ramones and The New York Dolls.
Yanks recorded two acclaimed EPs: “Only Lovers Left Alive”, and “Made In The States”, both on the DTI label. Big Stir Records is proud to be part of the digital distribution of these unearthed and remastered recordings and are eagerly awaiting Yanks news of the upcoming unreleased “third album”.
