JIM BASNIGHT returns to the Big Stir Singles Series this Friday with more songs than any paired A- and B-side should be able to contain! The three-cover-songs-in-one A-side “Prince Jones Davies Suite” and its flip side (which makes four) “Best Lover In The World” are out October 2 and up for pre-order at
www.bigstirrecords.com/big-stir-digital-singles now. The medley is another preview of Jim's forthcoming collection of covers (also teased on his last BSR Single), and that record now has a title -- JOKERS, IDOLS AND MISFITS – and will see release this November. And... we're going to maintain a little mystery around this one between now and its release...
The former MOBERLYS frontman is one of the hardest working men in the extended Big Stir family, if not show business, rarely off the road when touring is possible. He's been touring solo and with bands in the wake of his recent collection of originals, NOT CHANGING, a widely acclaimed album that features our B-side. The forthcoming covers collection even serves as career summation, including Basnight's work with The Rockinghams, Moberlys, as a solo artist, and more.
The new medley on the A-side, like the previous preview single from JOKERS, “This Is Where I Belong”, nods to Ray Davies of The Kinks, but here Basnight pays mutual tribute to two other songwriting legends: Prince and David Bowie (the “Jones” of the title). What we're leaving as an enticing mystery is exactly which Prince, Bowie, and Kinks tunes Jim has combined for the “Suite”. You can get a hint from the preview snippet at the pre-order link and are quite likely to catch the full track on one of the many radio outlets that feature our weekly singles, but for the moment... we can only suggest that you go ahead and pre-order. A pleasant surprise is certainly in order as we move into Autumn of this most unpleasant year, and we can guarantee that JIM BASNIGHT will deliver just that! And stand by for more information on the forthcoming release of JOKERS, IDOLS AND MISFITS later this year! Single sleeve design based on the album artwork by Powerpopaholic.
