As the BIG STIR RECORDS and SPYDERPOP RECORDS album relaunch campaign continues, both labels are proud to present a new single from legendary Nashville singer, songwriter, and genre-hopper BILL LLOYD! “Satellite” and its virtual flip side “Yesterday,” both drawn from Lloyd's acclaimed WORKING THE LONG GAME album, are out September 3 and are up for preorder now at
bigstirrecords.bandcamp.com (in time for Bandcamp Friday) and will be streaming everywhere on release date. They're just a taste of what listeners can expect when Bill's album joins Lannie Flowers' HOME and Danny Wilkerson's WILKERSON as the latest global relaunch from the SpyderPop catalog.
The A-side “Satellite” lifts off with pitch perfect pop immediacy, launching right into the singalong chorus before settling into the first verse. Quickly building through shimmering, jangling guitars, moving though a tasty slide guitar solo and walls of harmonies to its soaring crescendo, it's a shining example of Lloyd's mastery of the radio-ready guitar pop form. Like many of the tracks from WORKING THE LONG GAME, “Satellite” finds Bill matching his songwriting talents to those of a collaborator – in this case, renowned singer-songwriter FREEDY JOHNSTON – to thrilling effect.
“Yesterday,” our B-side, could easily be the lead track. Pushed along by driving drums and crunching guitars, it's a showcase for Lloyd's talent with vocal hooks and sly wit alike, and there's pure magic in the tune's bridge. Co-written by and featuring bass from TOM PETERSSON of CHEAP TRICK, it stands with that band's best, and won't soon be mistaken for the Beatles tune of the same title... it's just as melodically engaging, but it most assuredly rocks!
Fans won't have to wait long after the single's release for details about the relaunch of WORKING THE LONG GAME on vinyl, CD, and global digital distribution. As reviews upon the record's initial release attest, it's a high water mark in Bill Lloyd's storied career... and as those who've followed him will know, that's really saying something.
