In anticipation of the February 25 release of a band new album from LANNIE FLOWERS on SpyderPop Records, we at their partner label Big Stir Records are proud to announce the first single from the unique project. “Summer Blue” debuts January 28, is up for preorder at bigstirrecords.bandcamp.com now, and will be available everywhere music is sold or streamed on the release date. It's a perfect radio-ready tune from an album packed full of them... unsurprisingly, given not only Lannie's way with a hook, but the fact that the album FLAVOR OF THE MONTH is both a totally new LP and a reworked collection of a string of acclaimed singles released in advance of Flowers' equally celebrated album HOME (2o19's Record of the Year, according to John Borack of GOLDMINE MAGAZINE).

Like all of the individual tracks collected on FLAVOR OF THE MONTH, “Summer Blue” has been extensively reworked and remixed by Lannie himself with an eye towards making the stack of should-be hits comprising the “March To Home” singles series into a coherent and sonically rich album. And though the record is exactly that, the new single sounds right at home back on the airwaves where it began, with its soaring chorus, gliding guitar, rich harmonies and singalong melody. Asked about its inspiration, Flowers explains, “Summer Blue is a DJ I saw online,” referring to one of the co-hosts (with Michael McCartney and Tanya Teal) of the long-running and beloved Hawaii-based program THE TIME MACHINE. “Great name and idea for a song. I already had the melody and wrote some lyrics that worked. You think this guy has the summer blues, but then you realize he’s talking about a girl. Isn’t it always?”

The result, both when originally released and now in this new album-version-turned-single-again, is a classic born for the airwaves. It's a textbook example of retro-pop hooks fashioned into something fresh, which is if anything Lannie's singular gift. Guitar from Nashville sessions legend PAT BUCHANAN and the empathetic beat from drummer SCOTT TRAMMELL, who anchor the band bringing the whole album to life, push the song to another level, their contributions crystal clear in Flowers' new mix. The thought that “Summer Blue” is just one of the should-be-chart toppers on the new collection should be enough to have longtime fans and newcomers alike to mark their calendars for the winter release date, as summer comes early... and promises to endure year-round as FLAVOR OF THE MONTH debuts first on CD and digital, and later this year as a deluxe vinyl LP package with digital bonus tracks to spare.
