about

Big Stir Records and SpyderPop Records are proud to bring you a new single to introduce a unique and exciting forthcoming LP and Book release: GENERATION BLUE, curated by S.W. Lauden, chronicling the '90s Geek Rock scene in Hollywood. We set the stage with a lost should-have-been hit from one of the scene's leading lights: SHUFFLEPUCK. “Where The Hell Is She” drips with all the hooks and power of the era, and it's to be accompanied by an all-new video featuring rare live footage of the band in their heyday. The single is out March 15.

If any band exemplifies the Generation Blue compilation and oral history, it’s Shufflepuck. Formed in 1994 at the West LA house immortalized by Weezer's "In The Garage," Shufflepuck had the most meteoric rise and dramatic break-up of all their Geek Rock peers. The talented quartet was fronted by Connecticut transplants Adam Orth (guitar/vocals) and Justin Fisher (guitar/backing vocals), two childhood friends who grew up rolling twelve-sided dice, listening to KISS, and playing heavy metal music with Weezer front man Rivers Cuomo (although it was Matt Sharp of Weezer and The Rentals who suggested their band name).

Shufflepuck quickly became one of the hottest bands on the local club scene where they shared bills with Supersport 2000, Lunchbox, Campfire Girls, Popsicko and That Dog, in addition to a couple of high-profile opening slots for Weezer at The Palladium and Universal Amphitheatre, and a buzzworthy industry showcase at SXSW. The band released the "Where The Hell Is She?"/"Fool Like Me" 7-inch on Catapult Records in 1995 before recording a full-length album for Interscope Records the following year with Ed Alexander (bass) and Keith Fallis (drums).  Cracks appeared when their Interscope A&R rep disappeared, but they soldiered on to finish their stellar debut album – only to have their release date repeatedly pushed back. Deeply frustrated by the never-ending delays, the band finally negotiated a deal to leave Interscope with the unreleased album, intending to place it with another major label, but the fickle music industry had moved on.

With no other prospects in sight, SHUFFLEPUCK broke up on stage at the Martini Lounge during the 1997 Poptopia music festival. Orth went on to form the band Roosevelt with former Ridel High guitarist Steve LeRoy, while Fisher became Nerf Herder's bassist and fronted his own band, Psoma.

"Where The Hell Is She?" is the lead single from Generation Blue, the first time the album version of the Shufflepuck song will see official release on vinyl and all streaming platforms by Big Stir Records and SpyderPop Records.
