about

POPDUDES return to the BIG STIR RECORDS SINGLES SERIES this Friday with a groovy flashback to the year 1970! “O-o-h Child” b/w “Share the Land” “O-o-h Child” showcases tunes originally performed by the Five Stairsteps and the Guess Who, respectively will be released on November 6, 2020 as a digital single in partnership with SPYDERPOP RECORDS, available for preorder now at bigstirrecords.bandcamp.com/music. Another far-out note - all proceeds from the sale of the digital single will go directly to help feed the homeless and hungry in Southern California.

1970 was truly a special year in music. The Beatles released their final album, broke up, and saw each of their members find solo success. Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath stoked the early fires of both heavy metal and AOR. Artists such as James Taylor and Cat Stevens brought singer/songwriter vibes to the charts. The Stooges and Velvet Underground shone as early precursors of punk rock, in music and attitude. Glorious one-shots by the likes of Edison Lighthouse and Tee-Set littered the top 40. There was most assuredly plenty of memorable music released throughout the year.

Popdudes is a fun-loving cover band from Southern California that includes music journalist/drummer JOHN BORACK and multi-instrumentalist (and Big Stir recording artist) MICHAEL SIMMONS. To celebrate those halcyon musical days of 1970, they have contributed their musical efforts to an upcoming compilation (produced by Borack) project in dedication to this musically epic year. John shares, “Although the Five Stairsteps and the Guess Who released these songs a half century ago, lyrics such as, ‘Someday/We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun/Someday/When the world is much brighter’ and ‘You got brothers and sisters who care/About what's gonna happen to you in a year from now’ could easily be seen as referencing the current climate. Plus, both songs are optimistic, and I think we could all use a little optimism right now.”
